Work health and safety
The principles of work health and safety are enshrined in legislation within each Australian State and Territory.
Employers have substantial duties under these laws to ensure the safety of people in the workplace, and substantial fines can be imposed for inadequate attention to workplace safety. Governments have shown that they are willing to see these laws enforced. Our services are not limited to the defence of a prosecution.
As health care costs continue to rise and legislative and economic changes alter the benefit landscape, employers are seeking innovative and cost-efficient employee benefits solutions. At the same time, we also assist employers to change the longer-term exposure by addressing employee health, lifestyle choices and productivity. We work with employers to develop customised plans that drive employee engagement, promote responsibility and accountability, help manage health risk and conditions and reduce absences.
Through training and advice, we can assist you to understand your rights and obligations and those of others who come into the workplace, such as union officials and workplace inspectors. Our Work Health & Safety team are experts in all aspects of safety law. We provide a range of services to our clients including practical advice on safety law, development of WH&S procedures and policies, effectively managing critical safety events, dealing with WorkCover and protecting employer’s interests in investigations and prosecutions.
Whilst the intent of the legislation and the penalties imposed for breaching the Act are very clear, in reality how can you be sure that your company is fully compliant?
